Sobre el proyecto

Tuve la suerte de nacer en esta topografía quebrada y alocada, donde se tiene la fortuna de beber las muchas tazas de café al día contemplando las imponentes montañas donde se cultiva el grano; envueltas en una neblina suave por las mañanas, como despertando de un sueño, o en espectacular contraste con los rojos y violetas del cielo manizaleño durante las tardes. También he tenido la suerte de viajar, ver el mundo, sorprenderme con sus paisajes y la riqueza de sus habitantes y capturarlos para siempre con mi cámara; pero siempre vuelvo a estas montañas, atraído por su verde magnetismo… De este amor por mi tierra y mi pasión por la fotografía nació esta idea. Mirada Compartida es un proyecto apoyado por la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros, el Ministerio Colombiano de Cultura y el Paisaje Cultural Cafetero, que se compone de dos partes: la primera es un taller de sensibilización fotográfica dirigido a grupos de adolescentes que habitan los pueblos de la zona cafetera, y quienes se encargan de capturar la esencia del paisaje, la gente, los trajes típicos, las plazas de mercado, los parques, la arquitectura, la comida y la vida misma de su región. Sus fotografías y algunas de sus creaciones literarias alimentarán la segunda parte del proyecto: este blog. Muchas veces olvidamos cuán afortunados somos de vivir en medio de este paraíso declarado por la UNESCO como Patrimonio de la Humanidad; las actividades cotidianas y vicisitudes de la vida nublan nuestra capacidad de observación y asombro, por eso decidí trabajar con los muchachos; para recuperar esa mirada y formar embajadores de la región. ¿Quién mejor para mostrar la belleza del Paisaje Cultural Cafetero que sus mismos personajes? Además, quise aprovechar la facilidad que nos otorgan los medios de hoy para compartir estas imágenes, capturadas por la sensibilidad de cada fotógrafo, apenas ayudados por sus cámaras. Con el impulso de este sueño realizamos la primera etapa del proyecto en los municipios de Aguadas, Caldas y El Cairo, Valle del Cauca, en los cuales contamos con la colaboración del Colegio Roberto Peláez –especialmente su Rectora Luz María Motato- y la Organización Serraniagua. Sin embargo, nada de esto habría sido posible sin la disposición de los habitantes de estos pueblos, quienes además de llenar estas fotos con sus colores, belleza y alegría, nos contaron sus historias y ayudaron en todo lo que necesitamos. Así pues, tengo el gusto de presentarles las hermosas fotografías de estos muchachos, que se valieron de sus cámaras digitales –no profesionales- para transmitir la esencia de su cultura cafetera. Vale la pena aclarar que las imágenes no tienen ningún retoque o tratamiento digital, simplemente, ¡no lo necesitan!… Disfruten.

About the project I had the luck to be born in this rugged and crazy topography, where you can drink all the cups of delicious coffee you want while watching the majestic mountains where the bean grows; either wrapped in fog, like waking up from a dream, or in spectacular contrast with the colors of the sky at sunset. I also had the luck of traveling, see the world, get surprised with its landscapes and the richness of its people, and capture all this beauty with my camera… However, I always come back to these mountains, attracted by their green magnetism. This idea was born from the love I feel for my homeland and my passion about photography. “Mirada Compartida” (Shared Look) is a project supported by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation, the Colombian Ministry of Culture and the Coffee Cultural Landscape, and it is divided in two parts: the first one is a workshop of sensibilization about photography, oriented to teenagers from the little towns of the Coffee Region, who will capture the essence of the landscape, people, typical costumes, Farmers Markets, parks, architecture, food and lifestyle in general of their regions. Their photos and some of their literary creations will feed the second part of the project: this blog. Sometimes, we forget about how lucky we are of living in the middle of this paradise, recently declared as one of the World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO; our daily activities mist our ability to observe and amaze, that’s why I decided to work with the teenagers and train them as ambassadors of the Coffee Region. Who will be better to show the beauty of the Coffee Cultural Landscape than some of their main characters? Besides, I wanted to use the new media to share these images, captured by the emotions of each photographer, helped by their cameras. Driven by this dream, we developed the first stage of the project in the municipalities of “Aguadas” in the Department of Caldas and “El Cairo” in the Department of Valle del Cauca, where we had the cooperation of the “Colegio Roberto Pelaez” and “Serraniagua” Organization. However, this would not have been possible without the help and good disposition of the people; they fill these pictures with their colors, beauty, happiness and tales. Having told this. I have the pleasure to present you the amazing photographs these kids took with their non-professional cameras; they were not retouched or treated digitally, they simply didn’t need to!.. Enjoy.
